News and political news

News and Political News are two separate collections under Content in the left-hand menu, with almost identical fields. Political News is kept apart from News so advocacy/government- affairs content can be filtered, listed and searched on its own.

Both publish immediately when you save — there's no draft state or version history on either collection. Whatever you save is what visitors see; there's no "save as draft" step like there is on Pages, so double-check an article before saving it if you're not ready for it to be public.

Fields that matter

Field Notes
Title Also builds the slug (the web address), which you can adjust separately
Description Short text shown on cards and listings
Card Image The image shown on cards and listings (required on Political News, optional on News)
Categories Pick one category (see below) — required on Political News, optional on News
Publication Date Defaults to today
Expiration Date See the note below — it doesn't currently do what you'd expect
Member Only Hides the item from visitors who haven't signed in on the public website
Homepage / Spotlight Visibility Checkboxes controlling whether it's eligible for homepage and spotlight placement
Tags A short fixed list — if the options shown don't look like real tags for your content, check with your account contact before this collection is genuinely useful for tagging

The Content tab uses the same block set described in Content blocks (Text Section, Image+Text, People Cards, FAQ Section, Accordion) — no automatic list blocks here, since you're writing a single article rather than laying out a page. Both also have a Side Panel — see Side panel blocks.

Expiration Date doesn't remove anything automatically

You're asked for an Expiration Date (required on Political News, optional on News), but nothing on the website currently checks it — an article doesn't disappear or get unpublished when that date passes. If something needs to come down, unpublish or delete it yourself; don't rely on the expiration date to do it for you.

Categories

Categories, under Site Features, is a shared tagging list used across News, Political News, Events and E-Notes, plus several of the automatic list blocks (to let a page show only one category). Add or rename categories there; they're nested, so a category can sit under another one.

Where these appear on the website

  • News: /news/<slug>, plus the News List block and the homepage's Recent News section
  • Political News: /political-news/<id>, plus the Political News List block
